An Abia State High Court has restrained the Abia State Independent Election Commission (ABSIEC) from conducting the Local Government elections. According to The Whistler, the court granted the exparte motion in a case filed against ABSIEC. The court fixed April 24 for hearing on the substantive application. The commission is responsible for conducting LG polls in Abia. The state Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) had earlier released the timetable for the conduct of the polls slated for April 28, 2023.  

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, has condoled with the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, over the demise of his wife, Ifeoma. Gbajabiamila, who expressed sadness over the death of Mrs Kalu, said he received the news of her passing with shock. The speaker in a statement signed by him noted that losing one's wife is a very painful experience, and he prayed to God to give the Orji Uzor Kalu family the fortitude to bear the loss. Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Etigwe Uwa, on Monday commiserated with the Senate Chief Whip and former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, over the death of his wife, Ifeoma Ada Kalu. Orji Uzor Kalu announced the death of his wife on his verified Facebook page on Monday.
