Northern states lawmakers has said that the presidency should be retained in the North in 2023. The lawmakers, in a communique, after an advocacy meeting, in Abuja, convened by speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Prince Matthew Kolawole to drum support for Governor Yahaya Bello’s presidential bid. Opposition lawmakers in the House of Representatives have staged a walk-out over clause 52 of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill. They insist that the clause was never carried. They also insist that they will disrupt the proceedings when the House resumes from recess. The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has published the list of candidates for the November 6 Governorship Election in Anambra state. In the list published on Friday, the electoral umpire, in obedience to orders of court, dropped the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Mr Valentine Ozigbo and that of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has named Senator Ibrahim Dambaba (Sokoto South) as the new Senate Minority Whip. He replaced Senator Sahabi Yau from Zamfara State, who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) recently. Recall that Danbaba left the APC in the Eighth Senate, alongside Gov. The Senate on Tuesday, rejected the confirmation of Lauretta Onochie as a National Commissioner of the INEC. Chairman of the Committee, Kabiru Gaya, in his report said Onochie did not satisfy the provisions of the Federal Character Principles. A former Kaduna senator, Shehu Sani, has reportedly tendered his resignation from the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) with immediate effect, even as sources said the former Senator may join opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
