A group, Nkporo Peace Foundation Initiative has expressed support for Chief Kalu Idika Okwara to become the next governor of Abia state. The group called Kalu Idika the best governorship material in 2023 prevailing on the ruling People's Democratic Party, to commence a process of adopting him as the sole candidate of the party. The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has zoned its chairmanship to the north ahead of the 2023 elections. Governors Nasiru El-Rufai (Kaduna) and Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), announced this while responding to Daily Trust’s question at a media briefing, which held after President Muhammadu Buhari’s meeting with governors of the ruling party. The Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has picked March 26, 2022, for its convention. The exercise initially scheduled for February 26, 2022, was postponed indefinitely. The All Progressives Congress has notified the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of its zonal congresses scheduled to hold on 26th March 2022.’ The notice of the congresses is contained in a memo jointly signed by the Secretary and chairman, Caretaker committee of the party and made available to newsmen on Monday. According to the party, the notice supersedes its earlier notice for national convention. The party enjoined the electoral body to arrange its officials to monitor the exercise accordingly.

Top politicians in Zamfara State have started jostling for the position of the deputy governor of the state following a move by the state House of Assembly to impeach the current occupant, Mahadi Aliyu Gusau.
