Ahead of the May 29, 2023 change of government in Abia state, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has commenced an investigation into the utilization of local government funds by state government officials. The commission in a letter dated 4th April, 2023 and addressed to the permanent secretary in the ministry of Local Government and chieftaincy affairs invited treasurers and Heads of service in the 17 local government councils for questioning. Adejoh Okeme, a legal practitioner, on Sunday, emerged the candidate of Labour Party (LP) for the November 11 governorship election in Kogi State. Mr Okeme polled 127 votes to beat his closest rival AVM Isaac Alfa, who scored 69 votes at the primary held on Saturday in Lokoja, the state capital, through indirect mode. The primary was held under the supervision of a 7-member Committee, led by Dr Ayo Olorunfemi, the party’s Deputy National Chairman. A former president of Ijaw Youth Council, Eradiri Udengs has won the Labour Party (LP) governorship primary in Bayelsa State. Udengs was declared winner by the returning officer and Abia State governor-elect, Dr. Alex Otti. He scored 79 votes out of the 105 votes casted during the primary. Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye has won the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primaries in Kogi State. Dino was declared winner by the returning officer on Sunday. He scored 313 votes to defeat Idoko Ilonah who had 124 votes. Others, Awoniyi Sunday had 77 votes while Musa Wada had 56 votes The former lawmaker will be up against Usman Ododo, the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the election.

Ougoing governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has won the Sokoto South Senatorial election. Tambuwal, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Ibrahim Danbaba Dambuwa, who is the incumbent Senator representing Sokoto South. Tambuwal polled 100,860 votes while Danbaba polled 95,884 votes. Tambuwal, a two-term governor, served as speaker of the House of Representatives from 2011 to 2015, when he was elected governor of Sokoto state. He was reelected as governor in 2019.
