The National Assembly election petition tribunal in Lagos has nullified the victory of Seyi Sowunmi, a member representing the Ojo federal constituency, in the February election. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike has ordered the arrest of the owner of the two-storey building that collapsed on Wednesday night at Lagos Street, Garki Village, Abuja. The FCT Emergency Management Agency, FCT FEMA, said in a statement that two victims have died, while 37 others were evacuated and taken to the hospital. The Lagos State House of Assembly has rejected 17 commissioner-nominees of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, including former commissioner for health, Akin Abayomi and former commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotosho. The lawmakers, however, confirmed 22 other commissioner nominees of the governor. The exercise, which was done through a voice vote, was sequel to the screening of the nominees at the assembly’s Committee of the Whole at plenary. The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has denied media reports that the new FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, ordered the demolition of 6,000 houses across 30 settlements in Abuja as well as the Wadata Plaza, the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which the minister is a member.
