The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has sacked Darlington Nwokocha of the Labour Party (LP) as senator representing Abia central Senatorial District. The Appeal Court declared Augustine Akobundu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the February 25 national assembly election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Nwokocha as the winner of the election with a total of 92,116 votes. Akobundu came second with 41,477 votes. The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos, on Friday, vacated the judgment by the National and State Houses of Assembly Tribunal which nullified the election of the lawmaker representing Isikwuato Umunneochi Federal Constituency in Abia State, Rep Amobi Ogah. Joint unions in Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), have kicked against the announcement by Sen. Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, referring to some members of the agency's board as executive board members. The federal government is planning to spend N1.5 billion on vehicles for the Office of First Lady amidst economic challenges facing the country. The amount is contained in the supplementary budget sent to the National Assembly for approval.
