A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Emeka Charles Kalu, has urged party members in Anambra state and national level to work towards victory of the party in the upcoming governorship election.
Kalu, the National Coordinator, People’s Democratic Party Coalition (PDPCO), stressed that there was need for the members and leaders to be in one accord while making decisions on the coming election.
In a statement made available to the press in Abuja, Kalu called for better coordination in all activities of the party, and shun acrimony to ensure stability of the PDP for the Anambra election and towards the 2023 general elections.
Kalu said the party must choose from among the several aspirants a grassroots politician that would not only be the party’s flagbearer, but also a unifier in the state and beyond.
According to him, “We have to look at someone with grassroots followership that will win elections for us starting with Anambra State. We have to look at the pedigree of the aspirants, rather than paying more attention to money.
The usual practice of promising many aspirants tickets when we all know that it can be only one individual that will get the ticket will be counter-productive because most of the aggrieved candidates always end up working against the party at the end and we lose the state again to other parties.
“The sooner we learn how to play this to get everyone in one accord, the better it will become for our party come 2023 presidential elections with Anambra 2021 as period for testing the waters.
“We need to look at members that have the interest of the party at heart and not the ones that place personal interest first, people that remember that the rest of the party members worked hard to make it a reality for the party.
“I am advising the youths to join hands with all party men to get things working for Nigerians in general. Only the youths can stop the trend of mortgaging their future, sacrificing their civic right and responsibility by following folks that cannot even win their wards in a free and fair election, let alone an entire state, all because they were confused with money.
“Such politicians are just pushing for personal aggrandisement and will not do anything for the state, so it is time to wake up so that we as the citizens will decide our future by ourselves.
“This is time to resist the practice of fostering of candidates on us. It is the time to work together as a party to win together in Anambra State and beyond.”
