Abia Assembly Ex-Minority Leader, Chijioke Chukwu Emerges APC State Chairman, Chief Chidi Avajah Secretary

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has elected Chijioke Chukwu, the former Minority Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly, as the new Chairman. Chidi Avajah was also elected as the party’s Secretary in a process that saw all positions emerge through consensus decisions.

In addition to the new leadership roles, Emeka Okoroafor was elected as State Organizing Secretary, Uche Aguoru as Publicity Secretary, and Mrs. Ezinne Udo Udoma as Deputy Treasurer, among several other positions.

The congress was overseen by Rt Hon. Emmanuel Go’ar, the Chairman of the Congress Committee from the National Working Committee (NWC) and a former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly. He described the consensus arrangement as a “manifestation of peaceful resolutions.”

Addressing the gathering, APC National Welfare Officer, Donatus Nwankpa, clarified that the APC in Abia State is not in alliance with any individual or political party ahead of the 2027 General Elections. Nwankpa emphasised that the party remains united, focused, and fully prepared to contest and win elections at all levels across the state.

A show of support came from Uchenna Erondu Jnr, a member of the Abia State House of Assembly, who donated a bus to aid the party’s activities in the state.

In his acceptance speech, newly elected Chairman Chijioke Chukwu vowed to unite the party from the grassroots to the top. He stressed that the APC is ready to win elections across all levels, including the governorship race, and emphasised that elections are not won on social media but through active, grassroots engagement.

The event, held on Tuesday in Umuahia, was attended by several chieftains, including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, and other figures of the party.
