A group made up of traditional rulers, dons, Abia professionals, prominent members of the political class and top businessmen have said Abia North Senatorial District has a lot to benefit if the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is re-elected in 2023.
In a statement issued on Monday, made available to newsmen, the stakeholders urged Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to step down for the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for the interest of the zone.
The leader of the group, Dr. Kalu Ncheghe, maintained that the advantage and opportunity Abia North have in Orji Kalu’s reelection must not pass them.
“We have a lot of projects going on in Abia North Senatorial District attracted by Distinguished Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. Our people are happy with these projects and do not want them abandoned. If Ohuabunwa truly loves Abia North, he should step down forthwith and strategize with other well-meaning Abia North elites in charting a way forward for Abia North. We repeat, Abia North has so much to benefit from the 10th Senate if Distinguished Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is returned.
“We are pushing for a new narrative for our people, without any further delay, we’re engaging seriously with the frontliners in the forthcoming presidential election, and secure bankable negotiations for Abia North political renaissance and development.
“We cannot afford to exclude ourselves from Nigeria’s politics by playing the politics of exclusion. Ohuabunwa should step down for now and reconsider contesting in the future,” the statement said.
