The Arewa League of Elders, on Monday, said the APC presidential ticket would be between former Lagos state Governor, Bola Tinubu and the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.
Describing Umahi as a good governor from Ebonyi state, the Elders advised him not to waste his resources in the presidential election.
Dr. Yusuf Zarewa, Director of Media and Publicity of the group in a chat with journalists, on Monday morning, noted that Kalu was the only Southeastern politician with the vast contacts and resources to match Tinubu.
In his words, “Umahi has done well as the Govenor of Ebonyi state but, I don’t think he is a presidential material. He should drop his ambition now because the contest would be a battle between Tinubu and Orji Uzor Kalu.
“Personally, I have read about what he is doing in Ebonyi state. I commend him but he shouldn’t waste his resources in a contest he cannot win. The best thing to do as the Chairman of South-East Governors forum is to mobilize other Igbo, businessmen and youths, close ranks and support Orji Uzor Kalu who is more prepared for the contest.
“Kalu is the best berth for the South-East. I feel he is the only person there that would match Tinubu money for money, media for media and contact for contact. Politics is a game of interest. Umahi should lead others in promoting, negotiating and defending the interest of the Igbos,” he said.
