Although the next governorship election in Kaduna State is almost two years away, the two main political parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), are already engaged in a silent battle to produce Governor Nasir el-Rufai’s successor at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House.

El-rufai recently scratched the subject of who might Succeed him in 2023. That Pronouncement of his has opened the Race to Kashim Ibrahim House to all Manners of Permutations. Top Seven Politicians that May Succeed the Outgoing Governor in 2023 include:

1. Rt. Hon. Isa Ashiru (PDP)

Ashiru was the 2019 PDP Governorship Candidate, he was a Two-term Member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly where he represented Kudan State Consistuency between 1999 and 2007. In the same vein, he represented Markarfi/Kudan Federal Constituency in the National Assembly from 2007 to 2015. The 58years-old joined the APC in 2014 and took a shot at the party’s Governorship Ticket but lost to Mallam Nasir El-rufai at the Primaries.

 

2. Senator Uba Sani (APC)

Senator Sani is the Incumbent Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly. He was elected during the February 2019 General Election under the APC platform after he defeated the then incumbent Senator Shehu Sani of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP). The 49years-old Politician was the Special Assistant on Political and Inter-governmental Affairs to Governor El-rufai between 2015 and 2019.

3. Dr. Aminu Shagali (APC)

Shagali is the immediate past Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, the Businessman turned Politician joined Politics in 2010. He was elected as Member representing Sabon Gari State Constituency under the defunct CPC platform in 2011. The 40years-old Legislator won a Re-election in 2015 under the APC flag and subsequently emerged as Speaker, Shagali retained his Seat in 2019 and was returned as Speaker. However, he resigned his Speakership position in February 2020.

4. Senator Shehu Sani (PRP)

An Author, Human Rights Activist and Politician, Sani is the immediate past Senator representing Kaduna Central in the National Assembly. In September 2015, he became the First and Only Nigerian Senator to Declare his Assets Publicly. He was defeated Uba Sani of the APC in February 2019.

5. Dr. Hadiza Balarabe (APC)

Balarabe is the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State. Being the First Female Deputy Governor of the State, She was elected during the 2019 General Election. The trained Medical Doctor turned Politician served previously as Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Primary Healthcare Development Agency.

6. Ramalan Yero (PDP)

Yero is the Ertswhile Governor of Kaduna State, he was appointed as Commissioner for Finance by the then Governor Nnamdi Sambo in 2007. In 2010, following the appointment of his Boss as Vice-president, he became as the Deputy Governor. In December 2012, he became the Governor of Kaduna State after the Death of Governor Patrick Yakowa in an Helicopter Crash in Bayelsa State. He ran for re-election in 2015 but lost to Mallam Nasir El-rufai of the APC.

6. Hadiza Bala Usman (APC)

The 44years-old is one of the Co-founders of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) Campaign and a Founding Member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The Former House of Representatives Candidate served as Chief of Staff to Gov. El-rufai between June 2015 and July 2016. In July 2016, She was appointed as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) by President Muhammadu Buhari.
