There is serious panic among the political class in Cross river state since yesterday following the destruction and looting of their properties by angry youths over what they described as years of neglect by the elites. Apart from stripping the warehouses in Calabar naked, scores of places have been touched.
Among the properties looted and destroyed so far, INEC, UNICAL hotel, West Africa Examination Council, WAEC, FIRS, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and 8 Miles Police Station are Federal institutions.
So far, State Government agencies touched include Ministry of Works, State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Cross River State Newspaper Cooperation, Chronicle, and Cross River State Properties Limited, CROSPIL, Garment Factory.
Meanwhile, Sen. Gershom Bassey’s house, Calabar Mall, Arab construction company and a truck load of Lafarge cement was vandalised.
Others are Calabar Discount Mall reportedly owned by Mrs Obioma Imoke, wife of former Governor Imoke, an ice cream parlor, Coldstone creamery, Domino’s Pizza, and 8 miles branch of First Bank was also attacked.
