JUST IN: FEC approves N13.08trn 2021 budget estimate

The Federal Executive Council has approved a budget estimate of N13.08trn for the 2021 fiscal year. The fiscal document was approved at a meeting of the council on Wednesday presided over by the President, Muhammadu Buhari. The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of the meeting. The minister said the budget proposal is predicated on N379 per dollar exchange rate; oil benchmark of $40 barrel per day; and oil production volume of 1.86 million per day.

Mr John Ugbe, the Managing Director of MultiChoice Nigeria, parent production company of the Big Brother Naija franchise, disclosed that the just-concluded Big Brother Naija season recorded the highest votes ever in the history of the show. He made the revelation today, September 30, at a media briefing and presentation of prize money to Laycon, who won the Lockdown edition of the show.   According to Ugbe, the cost of producing the show was N3.5bn. He added that the show recorded 900 million votes from the different voting platforms.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has suspended the increase in the Multi-Year Tariff Order, MYTO, 2020 for the Electricity Distribution licensees. The suspension took effect from September 28, 2020, and will become ineffective from October 11, 2020. The decision to suspend the MYTO followed a joint communique issued by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the labour unions, where the government agreed that the recent review in electricity tariffs would be suspended by the Commission for a period of 14 days to give room for further consultations and finalisation of negotiations between the parties.
