The Labour Party (LP) Management Committee in Imo State has announced a fresh date for its governorship primary in the state. The Chairperson of the committee in the state, Ukachukwu Awuzie, disclosed this to reporters in Owerri, Monday evening, Vanguard newspaper reported. Mr Awuzie, a professor, said the governorship primary of the party in the state would be held on 15 April. A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Comrade Chukwuemeka Ibem Eni Kalu has dumped the party. In a resignation letter addressed to the Ania ward chairman of the party dated 5th April, 2023, Kalu said: "This decision was reached due to the prolonged leadership tussles and numerous factions and personal interest which is obviously beyond the control of the party leadership which adversely affected it's performance in the just concluded election in Abia State."

The crisis rocking the Abia State chapter of the All Progressive Congress, APC, has deepened following the suspension of former Minister of State for Solid Minerals and Steel Development, Dr Uche Ogah; and other party bigwigs. The Labour Party senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South senatorial zone, Linus Okorie on Monday said that the outgoing Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi was not qualified and competent to occupy the office of the President of the Senate. Okorie, who represented Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo federal constituency in the House of Representatives, described Umahi’s aspiration for Senate President as deceptive and dead-on-arrival.
