A top politician in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Honourable Tanko Bitrus Kura, is dead. Hon. Kura from Jikowyi, Abuja was once a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairmanship flagbearer in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC). He is said to have passed on on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased was former PDP FCT Capacity Secretary, and ex-officio at national level. His family is yet to speak on his death though.

The Abia State chapter of Youth Democratic Party of Nigeria (YDPN), has on Tuesday declared that there would be no more recycling of old leaders who has made politics their career in the State and beyond. A group, under the aegis of Abia Group 17, has shortlisted some persons in Abia State as potential candidates to succeed Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in 2023. Some governors in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have begun moves to lobby for a former president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki and an ex-governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to emerge as the next national chairman of the party. The latest change of tactics came after the zoning committee, headed by the governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, zoned the position to the North. Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has urged former President Goodluck Jonathan to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party and not join the All Progressives Congress. According to the governor, the PDP is a better political platform for the ex-President to run for the 2023 Presidency if he chooses to. Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has zoned the position of the national chairman of the party to the north. The Chairman of the party’s Zoning Committee and Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, made the announcement on Thursday after the meeting of the committee in Enugu. Mr Ugwuanyi said other positions within the National Working Committee (NWC) will be swapped between the north and the south. The Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Anambra State, Obiora Agbasimelo, has been declared missing. The candidate’s disappearance has fuelled speculations that he has been kidnapped. The emergence of Agbasimelo as LP’s governorship candidate in the November 6 governorship election in Anambra followed the crisis in the party. The crisis threw up a faction in the LP while one of the leading aspirants at the beginning of the governorship race, Nnamdi Nnoruka, was allegedly kidnapped by unknown persons and forced to withdraw from the contest. The state police command has not issued an official statement on the matter.
