The House of Representatives Election Petition Tribunal has nullified the election of Rt. Hon. Simon Atigwe, the member representing Igboeze North/Udenu federal constituency. Atigwe, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was initially declared the winner of the February 3, 2024, re-run election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), having secured 23,863 votes against his closest rival, Hon. Dennis Agbo of the Labour Party, who garnered 23,226 votes. Rivers Governor Siminialayi Fubara has sent five commissioner-nominees to the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as members of the state Executive Council. The lawmakers responded immediately by inviting the nominees for screening on Tuesday. The nominees Dr. Sam Anya, Mr Ilamu Arugu, Dr. Rowland Obed Whyte, Samuel Eyiba, and Sir Austin Emeka Nnadozie were asked to appear before the legislators at 10am. They were asked to come along with 12 sets of their curriculum vitae (CV) and the originals and photocopies of their credentials.
