Governors of the 17 southern states have unanimously agreed that the next President of Nigeria should emerge from their region, puncturing the ambition of prominent politicians from the North. Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs Maryam Katagum, on Monday slumped while on an official engagement in Bauchi State. The next President of the country, the southern states governors have agreed, must be from the South. This was part of the decisions reached at the meeting of the southern states governors today (Monday) in Lagos. According to the communiqué released, the forum also deliberated on insecurity, constitutional amendment, PIB and anti-open grazing law in all member-states. The forum commended lawmakers for the passage of PIB, but rejected in 3% set for the host communities. Also, the governors unanimously chose Lagos State as their permanent Secretariat.  

The Southern Governors’Forum, SGF, on Monday, insisted that any law enforcement agency carrying out an operation in any of the states in the South must take permission from the state governor, who is the chief security officer of the state just as it insisted the next President of the country should emerge from the South.
