Candidates of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede; All Progressives Congress (APC), Rotimi Akeredolu; the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) Agboola Ajayi, and others, have signed a peace pact ahead of the Ondo State Governorship election slated for October 10, 2020 They signed the pact on Tuesday, pledging to shun violence during the election and avoid actions that may undermine the peace accord. Sunday morning witnessed a heavy gun battle along Oba Adeshida road in Akure, Ondo State capital as clash between supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and the All Progressives Congress(APC) escalated. The Sunday morning clash was said to have been a reprisal attack by APC members following the beaten given to one of the members by supporters of opposition PDP candidate, Mr Eyitayo Jegede. A five-man panel of the Appellate Court has overturned a ruling which nullified the election of Douye Diri as governor of Bayelsa State. The court held that the Bayelsa Election Petition Tribunal acted outside its jurisdiction by nullifying the election of Governor Diri. In a unanimous judgment, the five-man panel of the court said the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party failed woefully to show that it had a valid candidate that was unlawfully excluded by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
