President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Prof. Attahiru Jega, former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as Chairman, Governing Council of the University of Jos. The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, who disclosed this while addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, said Buhari also approved the appointment and reassignment of Chancellors to 42 federal universities. Two former Ministers, Prof Anthony Anwuka and Udoma Udo Udoma, were also appointed chairmen of governing councils. The Police Service Commission (PSC), on Thursday, rejected the promotion of a former Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu. The Commission said it is awaiting clearance from the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice and the Office of the Inspector General of Police. The announcement was contained in a statement made available to newsmen by its spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani. Human rights advocacy group, One Love Foundation, has filed a suit against the Nigerian Government before the ECOWAS Court over the recent killing of a Lagos State street hawker at Ojota on Saturday, 3rd July, 2021. The 14-year-old yoghurt hawker, simply identified as Jumoke, was allegedly killed by bullets reportedly fired by a security operative, who was dispersing Yoruba Nation agitators at Ojota, Lagos State. The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Scientific Equipment Development Initiative, SEDI, Enugu State, Prof. Simon Ndubuisi has been reportedly assassinated in Enugu State. DAILY POST learnt that the Federal Government Agency Director was murdered by unkonwn gunmen along the Enugu Port-Harcourt Expressway on Wednesday. The ECOWAS Court has announced July 9 as the date for the hearing of the coalition of applications against the Twitter Ban instituted by the Federal Government of Nigeria. A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday said that the former Finance Minister, Mrs Kemi Adeosun did not need the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) discharge certificate to take up any ministerial appointment or before standing for any elective office in the country. The court held that Adeosun who graduated in a London University in 1989 was already 36 years of age, therefore, exempted from participating in the NYSC scheme. President Muhammadu Buhari has commended the collaboration between security agencies on the operations against Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho. His spokesman, Garba Shehu, said they executed with great synchronization with arrests of individuals who had inflicted pain and hardships on fellow citizens.
