COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE MEETING OF THE GOVERNORS OF SOUTHERN NIGERIA AT THE LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT HOUSE, IKEJA, LAGOS STATE, ON MONDAY, 5TH JULY, 2021 NIGERIA. The Southern Governors Forum at the end of the meeting held on Monday, 5th July, 2021 reviewed the situation in the Country and focused on the current security situation, constitutional amendment, Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB). The next President of the country, the southern states governors have agreed, must be from the South. This was part of the decisions reached at the meeting of the southern states governors today (Monday) in Lagos. According to the communiqué released, the forum also deliberated on insecurity, constitutional amendment, PIB and anti-open grazing law in all member-states. The forum commended lawmakers for the passage of PIB, but rejected in 3% set for the host communities. Also, the governors unanimously chose Lagos State as their permanent Secretariat.  

The Southern Governors’Forum, SGF, on Monday, insisted that any law enforcement agency carrying out an operation in any of the states in the South must take permission from the state governor, who is the chief security officer of the state just as it insisted the next President of the country should emerge from the South. Governors of the southern region are holding a meeting in Lagos on the state of the nation. The meeting is a follow-up on the earlier meeting in Asaba hosted by the Delta state Governor where the governors agreed on far-reaching conclusions on open grazing, restructuring Nigeria, and calls for state police. Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has started receiving the governors at Alausa, Ikeja, the venue of their meeting. Makinde Appoints Ogunwuyi As Chief Of Staff Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has named Honourable Segun Ogunwuyi as his Chief of Staff. A letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mrs. Olubamiwo Adeosun, confirmed Ogunwuyi’s appointment. The appointment takes immediate effect. A group, the Igbo Peace Forum (IPF), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime to charge Nnamdi Kanu with mass murder. Mr Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been calling for the secession of Igbos from Nigeria. Now facing criminal charges following his re-arrest, Mr Buhari’s regime accused the separatist leader of orchestrating the killing of 60 people. The leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in Australia has charged all members of the group to boycott traveling with Kenya Airways. Head of membership and mobilisation of the group in Australia, Kennedy Ochi, also asked members to stop patronising any product made in Kenya and all businesses dealing with Kenyans. Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have arrested a Nigerian woman based in Brazil, Mrs. Anita Ugochinyere Ogbonna, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, NAIA, Abuja, with 100 pellets of cocaine concealed in her private part and handbag. Mrs. Ogbona, a mother of three, was arrested on Friday night, 2 July, 2021 on arrival in Abuja via Qatar Air from Sao Paulo, Brazil through Doha. Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo, former militant commander and head of the Biafra Customary Government (BCG), has broken his silence on the rearrest of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
