The hearing of a case against the Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, lasted for more than six hours on Thursday at Cour De’appal De Cotonou, Benin Republic. Igboho, who was arrested at Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou on Monday night, is being tried for immigration-related offences. After three sessions, the court ordered the release of Igboho’s wife, Ropo, while the activist was returned to cell. Supporters of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, were tensed on Thursday as Court D’Apeal of Cotonou began hearing in an extradition case involving the Yoruba rights activists. Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has said he would stand surety for the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, given the same circumstances. Abaribe had stood surety for Kanu before he jumped bail and fled the country in 2017. The lead counsel for arrested Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho, has described as inhuman, the treatment his client is being subjected to in the custody of the police in Benin Republic. A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, has dismissed a suit seeking to nullify the election of Senator Hope Uzodinma and his Deputy, Prof Placid Njoku and to declare the governorship seat of Imo State vacant. Trial judge, Justice Taiwo Taiwo on Monday, held that the applicant, Mcfyne Chikwedu, had no locus standi, adding that the suit was “patently non-justiciable.” The judge noted that Uzodinma’s election had been affirmed by the Supreme Court and his court was not an election tribunal that could sit on appeal over elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
