The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) under the leadership of its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has announced the sighting of moon, signifying the commencement of Ramadan on Saturday. Sultan made the announcement via a video and it was also announced on the Twitter handle of the NSCIA. “Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah, Alhamdu Lillah, the crescent of Ramadan 1443H has been sighted at some locations in Nigeria,” the tweet read.

The Appeal Court sitting in Enugu, Friday dismissed the suit filed by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ebonyi State, in the 2019 Governorship election, Senator Sonni Ogbuoji and his Deputy, Chief Justin Ogbodo Mbam, which demanded the Court to declare the seats of Governor David Nweze Umahi and his Deputy, Dr Kelechi Igwe vacant on account of their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the APC. The Nigerian police have arrested a 21-year-old woman, Glory Okolie who only got out of the Suleja correctional centre in Niger State last week after more than eight months of incarceration. Okolie was arrested by the Imo State Police Command acting through the Divisional Police Officer of Shell Police Station. Members of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) were among those killed in Monday’s attack on a Kaduna bound train. The Secretary-General of the union, Barr. Musa-Lawal Ozigi, and TUC Chairman in Kwara, Comrade Akinsola Akinwunmi, were killed during the attack. Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra has submitted a list of 20 Commissioner-nominees to the state House of Assembly for approval. The Speaker of the House, Mr Uche Okafor, announced this at Tuesday’s plenary while reading a letter from Soludo, dated March 28. Okafor said the governor also sent another letter requesting the confirmation of 15 Special Adviser nominees. The Speaker, however, asked the House Committee on Screening to screen the commissioner-nominees.
