The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has agreed to extend the ongoing continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise initially slated to end at the end of June, 2022. Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Electoral Matters, Hon. President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Abdullahi Bala as the new Executive Secretary for the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, NPTF. A statement by Osaigbovo Ehisienmen, the Press Secretary to the Minister of Police Affairs, on Tuesday in Abuja said Mr Bala took over from Ahmed Aliyu. President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed new ministers into his cabinet. Their appointment, which is subject to the confirmation of the senate, was announced on Tuesday. The new ministers would replace former cabinet members who resigned to pursue their 2023 ambitions. The electoral act as amended stipulates the resignation of those eyeing elective offices while in government. A total of 10 ministers had indicated interest in the 2023 elections, but while four dropped their ambitions in order not to resign, six stepped down and contested the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries. Three Senators belonging to the All Progressives Congress have resigned their membership of the ruling party. The lawmakers are Senators Ahmad Babba Kaita (Katsina North), Lawal Yahaya Gumau (Bauchi South), and Francis Alimikhena (Edo North). Whilst Babba Kaita and Alimikhena defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, Gumau, on the other hand, defected to the New Nigeria Peoples Party. The Senate on Tuesday named the lawmaker representing the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Philip Aduda, as the new Minority Leader of the Senate to replace Senator Eyinaya Abaribe. Senator Chukwuka Utazi was also named as the Senate Minority Whip to take over Aduda’s former position. The nominees are: Henry Ikechukwu – Abia State, Umana Okon Umana – Akwa-Ibom State; Ekuma Joseph – Ebonyi State; Goodluck Nana Obia – Imo State; Umar Ibrahim Yakub – Kano State; Ademola Adewole Adegorioye – Ondo State; Odo Udi – Rivers State. Ned Nwoko, husband to Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels. has stated that Peter Obi cannot become the president of Nigeria because he does not have the structure to rule Nigeria.
