The All Progressives Congress in Abia State has announced the suspension of its candidate in the recently-conducted governorship election, Ikechi Emenike over alleged misappropriation of 2023 election funds. The state gubernatorial standard-bearer was suspended alongside an Abia factional chairman of the APC, Mr Kingsley Ononogbu over the misappropriation of some funds. PEOPLES Gazette, a Nigerian online newspaper, has suspended one of its reporters, Ayoola Babalola for one month without pay for violating the newspaper’s social media policy. Babalola is on the political desk of Peoples Gazette and has previously worked with Sahara Reporters. An Abia State High Court has restrained the Abia State Independent Election Commission (ABSIEC) from conducting the Local Government elections. According to The Whistler, the court granted the exparte motion in a case filed against ABSIEC. The court fixed April 24 for hearing on the substantive application. The commission is responsible for conducting LG polls in Abia. The state Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) had earlier released the timetable for the conduct of the polls slated for April 28, 2023.
