The National Election Petition Tribunal in Umuahia has dismissed the petition filed against the declaration of Chief Ibe Okwara Osonwa as winner of the February 25 Arochukwu Ohafia Federal Constituency election for lack of merit and being incompetent. The petitioner, Ifeanyi Uchendu of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP), had approached the court to challenge Mr Osonwa’s victory. Messr Uchendu had accused INEC of not complying with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, as amended in the conduct of the election.   Details later.

President Bola Tinubu met with Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India, on the first day of the G20 summit. Tinubu departed Nigeria on September 4 for the two-day summit in New Delhi, India. Some bandits in the late hours of Thursday allegedly invaded St. Raphael Parish in Fadan Kamantan, Kafanchan Diocese in Southern Kaduna, and razed the parish house with a Seminarian, Na’aman Danlami. The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has given the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) two weeks to clear the over 200,000 pending passport applications before it.
