The Defence Headquarters (DHQ), on Monday, revealed the identities of the 16 Army personnel of the 181 Amphibious Battalion ambushed and killed by suspected youths in Okuama community of Ughelli South local government area of Delta State. The personnel, comprising the Commanding Officer, three other senior officers and 12 soldiers, were on a peace mission to Okuama community when members of the community launched unprovoked attacks killing them on Thursday. The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Yemi Cardoso, is reportedly set to retire eight directors of the apex bank, barring any last-minute change. There are strong allegations that some angry soldiers may have perpetrated the act after their colleagues were killed. The Northern Elders Forum (NEF), has supported plans by Kaduna-based Muslim cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, to engage in dialogue with bandits who abducted about 287 schoolchildren from Kuriga Government Secondary and LEA Primary Schools in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. It stated that Gumi may be able to secure their release and prevent future abduction.
