The Chairman of Obanliku Local Government Area of Cross River State, Hon. Evangelist Margaret Inde, has empowered pilot farmers each with a hoe, cutlass and one tuber of yam. The LG boss handed over the items during activities to mark the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Obanliku LGA as well as celebration of the New Yam festival held on Friday, August 27. The empowernment scheme has elicited varying reactions on social media with many people criticising Mrs Inde’s gesture while others blamed the able bodied men who lined up to accept the items from her.

At least ten people have reportedly sustained varying degrees of injury as Hausa traders and Fulani herdsmen engaged in a bloody clash at the popular Hausa Market along Benin-Warri Road, Amukpe, Sapele in the Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State. Three members of the Living Faith Church Worldwide have been kidnapped at Osara community along Lokoja-Okene road in Adavi Local Government Council of Kogi State. Daily Trust learnt that the kidnapers invaded the church when some of its members were rehearsing during the weekend. It was gathered that the kidnappers shot sporadically into the air to scare away residents and security personnel while whisking the victims into the forest. Many people have reportedly been killed at Yelwan Zangam community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State. Daily Trust gathered that houses were also burnt down in the attack. This is coming barely one week after 27 travelers were killed in Gada-biyu – Rukuba road, still in Jos North LGA. Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked the popular college of Agriculture, Bakura, in Zamfara State and abducted unspecified number of students. DAILY POST gathered that the incident occured on Sunday night when the assailants invaded the school premises shooting sporadically, before whisking the victims away. It was also learnt that the attackers engaged in gun due with some security personnel serving in the area, leading to the death of officers. The Eselu of Iselu Kingdom, Oba Akintunde Akinyemi, on Monday, announced the withdrawal of the conferment of Otunba Asoludero chieftaincy title on former Imo State governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha. The first-class traditional ruler also canceled the installation ceremony which was earlier scheduled to hold on September 19.
