SAD! Lecturers are hungry, can’t return to classes in empty stomachs – Official

The Coordinator of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the South-South region, Aniekan Brown says members of the union cannot return to classrooms on empty stomach. Brown who is in charge of Abia, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Ebonyi states maintained that in the interim, their members have not been paid salaries for periods ranging from four to nine months, and as such, their members will not return to classes until they are paid. Schools at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja are to reopen  on Sunday, 11th October, 2020 for all boarding students while academic activities will begin on Monday. The FCT Minister, Mallam Muhammad Bello made the announcement while briefing newsmen in Abuja, on Thursday. BREAKING: Nigerian govt orders school reopening October 12

The Federal Government has announced the full reopening of 104 Unity Schools across the country from October 12. The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who made the announcement at a press conference, said State Governments and private school owners are at liberty to reopen anytime from the said date. According to him, the reopening should be based on guidelines developed for the safe reopening of schools. He urged the colleges to abide by the COVID-19 protocol guidelines developed to curtail the spread of the virus. The Minister threatened to shut down any school that fails to obey the protocols.
