The Niger State Universal Basic Education Board, NSUBEB, has disclosed that more than 90 per cent of pupils in exit classes in public schools can neither read nor write. Dr Isah Adamu, Chairman of NSUBEB, disclosed this during a two-day roundtable discussion on revamping basic education in Niger State in Minna on Thursday. A student of Cross River University of Technology, Calabar campus identified as Ford Moses Nkasi, was killed by assailants suspected to be armed robbers. A 300-Level student of the University of Ilorin in Kwara State, Omowumi Blessing, has been reportedly raped and killed by yet-to-be identified persons. The deceased was hacked to death on Tuesday after she was allegedly raped at her residence in Tanke area of Ilorin. The Governing Board of the National Examinations Council (NECO) has approved the appointment of Mr. Ebikibina John Ogborodi as the Acting Registrar/Chief Executive of the Council. Fourteen students of Greenfield University in Kaduna State were on Saturday released by their captors weeks after their abduction. ChannelsTV reports that the students were released along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway. The chairman of the Parents Forum, Markus Zarmai, and few others were expected to receive the students at the drop-off location, the TV station reported. About 100 students of the College of Health Sciences and Technology in Ijero Ekiti, Ekiti state, were hospitalised on Wednesday, after reportedly inhaling chemicals used for a fumigation exercise in the school. The students, who were furious about the smell of the chemical and the instant effect on over 100 female students who collapsed after inhaling the chemical, protested against the exercise.
