Chief Patrick Osagie Eholor, the Global President of civil society group, One Love Foundation, on Monday slammed the Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki over his inability to protect the people of Edo state as the Chief Security Officer of the state.
In a statement sent to THE WHISPERER on Monday, the social crusader opined that despite the billions deducted as security votes, the governor has failed to provide the necessary institutional and moral support to tackle insecurity in the state.
Reacting to Saturday’s attack and killing of Mr. Olajide, the younger brother of Omoyele Sowore, Publisher of Sahara Reporters by gunmen in the state, Eholor stated that rising insecurity including kidnapping, armed robbery, banditry were largely due to Governor Godwin Obaseki’s negligence, giving the impression that Edo state was losing the battle to dissidents.
He lamented that countless persons have lost their lives to kidnappers, bandits, herdsmen killings in the state while Governor Obaseki as the Chief Security Oficer of Edo State, with billions as security votes, is busy watching the atrocities while the perpetrators go unpunished as a result of his incompetence.
Eholor said, “It is important that necessary attention is given to the situation in Edo State before it becomes the new normal.
” Obaseki must stop playing politics with the deteriorating insecurity in Edo state. He should stop the mudslinging in politics, defend Edo people by effectively using the security votes he is collecting for the safety our people.
“I call on Governor Godwin Obaseki to urgently order a background check on infiltrators and identify those causing havoc in the state,” Eholor said in a statement.
“I equally call on governors in the South-South region to wake up to the reality of growing cases of robberies in the region and fashion out how to collaborate with necessary stakeholders to arrest the situation.
“Bank robberies, kidnapping, banditry which claimed the lives of innocent citizens have been recorded more than once lately in Edo and Delta States.
“If you cannot defend those who elected you as their Chief Security Officer, the best thing to do is to resign,” Eholor said.
