Defection: PDP threatens Zamfara Governor, Bello Matawalle

Against the backdrop of the official defection of the Zamfara state governor, Bello Matawalle from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC; the PDP has warned the governor not to forget that there is no crisis in the party to warrant his defection.

The Presidency had Sunday, confirmed the defection of the Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

This is according to a Facebook post by Presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad reads, “So Zamfara is back home, Welcome Matawalle,” .

Addressing newsmen at the party’s secretariat, spokesman Kola Ologbondiyan said the party may head to court to challenge the defection.

He added that the wave of defections that have hit the party recently were informed by the politics of intimidation that the All Progressives Congress, APC, “is known for.”

Mr. Ologbondiyan also announced the dissolution of the Zamfara state chapter of the party with immediate effect.

“The PDP categorically cautions Bello Matawalle to know that his plans amount to a decision to vacate office,” Ologbodiyan said.

Matawalle’s reported defection to the APC is PDP’s third loss to APC since Dave Umahi of Ebonyi defected in November 2020, and Ben Ayade defected in May.
