Ex-Senator Emerges Anambra APC Chairman

A former senator who represented Anambra North in the National Assembly, Emmanuel Anosike, has emerged as Chairman of the Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to The Punch, Anosike was elected through a consensus arrangement at the party’s state congress held at its headquarters in Awka on Tuesday. He currently serves as Chairman of the Anambra-Imo River Basin Development Commission.

Announcing the result, the Chairman of the State Congress Committee and Returning Officer, Rear Admiral Williams Kayoda (retd.), declared that the consensus list of State Executive Committee members was endorsed by about 2,100 delegates through voice affirmation.

Kayoda named Chief Chidi Orji as Vice Chairman and Obi Okpala as Secretary, alongside other executive members. He stated that the process complied with Articles 14 and 20 of the party’s constitution, which provide for consensus in the election of officers.

“I hereby affirm that the congress was free, fair and credible,” Kayoda said, adding that Anosike and other members of the State Executive Committee were duly elected and returned in line with the party’s constitutional provisions.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Congress Harmonisation Committee and Director-General of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Uche Ekwunife, said the adoption of consensus was aimed at ensuring credible leadership capable of repositioning the party in the state. She noted that stakeholders across wards and local government areas were consulted before agreeing on the arrangement.

In his acceptance speech, Anosike described his emergence as a call to service and pledged to run an inclusive administration.

“We shall ensure that all members are carried along in the affairs of the party. This marks a new dawn for the APC in Anambra State,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation to the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, for his leadership in managing the party in the South-East, and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to delivering President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Following the congress, the executive committee led by the immediate past chairman, Basil Ejidike, was formally dissolved after a motion was moved and adopted by voice vote. In his valedictory remarks, Ejidike, who served for seven years, urged members to support the new leadership and expressed confidence in the party’s continued growth.

The event attracted several prominent figures, including Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, Azuka Okwuosa and Iyke Iliobi, among others.
