Ex—Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose Visits Tinubu, Says PDP May Become Carcass
Former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose has praised President Bola Tinubu for stabilising Nigeria’s economy and warned that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) risks becoming “a carcass” if internal issues are not urgently addressed.
Speaking during a visit to the president, Fayose commended Tinubu’s early efforts to steer Nigeria away from economic collapse, stating that although the reforms have not yielded immediate miracles, they reflect courageous and stabilising decisions.
“For Nigerians, no one is saying it is easy, but there is no miracle,” Fayose said. “You cannot turn things around overnight. But for the little the President has done, we must commend him,” he said.
Fayose, a critic of previous administrations, said the current economic situation offers hope for tomorrow and described Tinubu’s leadership as deserving of support across party lines.
He added that despite being a PDP leader, he has long had personal admiration for Tinubu.
“Even while I was a sitting PDP governor, I believed in his leadership. The only thing we can do as leaders now is to encourage him.”
On the internal crises rocking the PDP and increasing defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Fayose warned that the party may die if the internal issues are not quickly resolved.
“If they don’t quickly take steps, the party will become a carcass. That is the truth.”
However, he ruled out defecting to the APC or any other party, saying, “Ayo Fayose will not move from PDP to any political party, not even APC.”
Fayose, who noted that he no longer holds any frontline political position, said he has done his part in the party and hopes others will act decisively to save the PDP from irrelevance.
