Ikpeazu’s Former Spokesman, Onyebuchi Ememanka, Resigns  From PDP

Former Chief Press Secretary to ex-Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Mr. Onyebuchi Ememanka, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking the end of a long and eventful political chapter.

In a letter dated May 6, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of Amasato Ward 3, Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area, Ememanka announced his resignation with immediate effect. He expressed gratitude to the party for the platform it provided and the cooperation he enjoyed during his service.

“I wish to notify you, officially, of my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party. This is effective immediately,” the letter stated.

In a detailed statement titled “Goodbye, PDP!” Ememanka explained that his decision followed deep personal reflection and consultations with his family. He lamented the continued mass exodus of key members from the PDP after the 2023 elections, criticizing the party’s failure to reorganize or restrategize in the aftermath of its electoral defeat.

“Rather, what I saw was a deliberate and consistent exodus of key members of the party into other parties,” he wrote. “The most startling aspect was that people who since 1999 have benefited massively from the party… were the first to leave.”

Ememanka, who served as Ikpeazu’s spokesman for a full tenure — a record in the state — affirmed that his departure is not an attack on the former governor. Instead, he praised Dr. Ikpeazu for his kindness, leadership, and service to Abia State.

“My joy is that I built a relationship with Ikpeazu that is beyond the narrow confines of politics,” he said, pledging never to speak ill of the former governor or the PDP despite his exit.

While Ememanka has not yet disclosed his next political move, he hinted at being inspired by the style of Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, describing Kalu’s recent political strategies as impressive.

“As a young man, I still have a lot of fire in my bones. I want to be in politics and public service… But remaining in the PDP will make that plan a mirage, at least, in the immediate future,” he declared.
