Former Kaduna State Governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, and the Kaduna State gubernatorial candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 governorship election, Senator Suleiman Usman Hunkuyi, were among the defectors who returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday in Kaduna.

They were received by the state governor, Uba Sani, who welcomed other new members to the party, assuring them that they would enjoy the same rights and privileges as every other party member.

Governor Sani, who addressed party supporters at Murtala Square in the state capital on Saturday, said, “Someone who joins APC today and the one who has been a foundation member 10 years ago are of the same status. They will enjoy the same rights and privileges.”

He urged the new members to notify their supporters of the APC’s readiness to accept them into the party, as its doors were still open to more defectors.

According to Sani, the popularity and acceptability of the APC are due to its just leadership at both the state and federal levels.

He expressed confidence that the party would emerge victorious in the 2027 elections, from top to bottom, with President Bola Tinubu leading the charge.

“In the 2027 election, the electorate will vote for APC in all the elections, from top to bottom. At the top, our leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will be elected. At the state level, the party will be voted for in the gubernatorial, National, and State Assembly elections, by the grace of God,” TheWhistler quoted Governor Sani.

He also promised that his administration would execute projects in all parts of Kaduna State, regardless of party affiliations and ethno-religious considerations.

“Politics is different from governance. We will be fair to all, whether or not they voted for us, because that is the oath of office we swore to uphold as leaders,” he added.

The governor also reminded the crowd that leaders would be held accountable in the hereafter regarding how they led the people whom God had entrusted to them.

The new members, who defected from other parties, include notable figures such as former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani; former Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero; Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, who was the NNPP gubernatorial candidate in the last election; and Senator Danjuma La’ah, who represented Zone Three in the upper legislative chamber on the platform of the PDP.

Others are Alhaji Sani Shaaban, a former gubernatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in the state; Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha, former National Organising Secretary of the PDP; and Ambassador Sule Buba, Nigeria’s former envoy to South Korea.
