Chief Sam Anya, Rivers State Commissioner for Special Duties, Chief Dr. Sam Anya has extended his congratulations to Senator John Azuta-Mbata on his election as President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
The election, held on Friday at the Old Government Lodge in Enugu, witnessed unanimous support from Rivers State delegates for Azuta-Mbata. His emergence comes after the position was zoned to Rivers State, following the passing of Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, who represented Imo State.
Azuta-Mbata, a former Senator representing Rivers East under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during Nigeria’s Fourth Republic, becomes the first Ikwerre and Rivers native to lead the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization. His assumption of this role marks a significant moment for the group.
In a statement released on Sunday, Anya, who also serves as the Coordinator of Non-indigenes in Rivers State, expressed confidence in Azuta-Mbata’s ability to excel in his new role.
“I wholeheartedly congratulate you, Senator John Azuta-Mbata, on your election as President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
“Your remarkable track record as a businessman, politician, and statesman reflects your dedication and excellence in serving Rivers State and Nigeria. I am confident that your extensive experience and leadership skills will greatly enhance this organization.
“There is no doubt that you are well-equipped to advance the cause of Ndi Igbo and navigate the complexities of Nigerian politics for the benefit of the Igbo people. Please be assured of my unwavering support as we embark on this journey together.”
