Chief Emeka Kalu, a Chieftain of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has frankly stated that the furore generated by power shift and zoning in the country is healthy but there is no law stopping prominent Nigerians from the North or West contesting for 2023 presidency.
Kalu, who is the Southeast Coordinator, Reset Nigeria made this known to Abuja based online blog, thewhisperer.ng while dabbling into the recent conversation generated over renewed interest in 2023 politics.
Speaking with the whisperer in an interview from USA, Kalu said 2023 presidency should be prioritised on character, capacity and competence not on tribe and regional interest.
According to him, zoning has brought nepotism, greed and corruption. These three is an impediment to growth and lack of growth encourages corruption.
“We must elect a leader with the competency to revamp our economy, education, Infrastructure, agribusiness and digital economy. Growth will reduce corruption.”
Kalu said he believed no law disallowed prominent Nigerians like former President Goodluck Jonathan; former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar; former Secretary to Government of the Federation(SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim; former Lagos State Governor and APC leader, Bola Tinubu and governor of Sokoto state Aminu Tambuwal from contesting the 2023 presidency if they desire.
“Zoning in the first place is not a constitutional or concessional matter; it is an arrangement and understanding by the founding members of the PDP to give the opportunity to each side of the country.” the PDP leader said.
