The Deputy Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Engr Ikechukwu Emetu has extolled Obimba Age Grade of Abia Ohafia for rising to the occasion on community service in Ohafia Local Government.
The Deputy Governor said in a keynote address as Special Guest of Honour at the Igba Uche ceremony of the age grade at Abia Ohafia on Dec. 28, that the mobilisation of members and resources by the age grade for a project central to the development of the community, was remarkable and commendable.
“We cherish it when people support the government to bring development and this is a clear case of such,” Emetu said. “As a government, the people will reman at the centre of what we do,” he said.
The Obimba Age Grade executed and delivered a feeder-road bridge, called Owalude Bridge to Abia community, in fulfilment of the traditional requirements for the ceremony. The bridge, which eases access to farmlands in the locality is expected to open up a long stretch of land for housing development.
The Chairman of the Igba Uche ceremony, Chief Emele Onu, urged other age grades in the community to emulate Obimba by identifying with projects assigned to them and delivering them in good time. He enjoined indigenes and recidents of the community to take advantage of the bridge to reach more farmlands, grow more crops and be sustainable in food production.
