Aisha Yesufu, a prominent Nigerian human rights activist, has clarified that her support for Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, is not unconditional.
During an interview on the “Mic On” podcast with Seun Okinbaloye, Yesufu stated that she is open to backing a different candidate in the 2027 presidential election if someone better emerges.
She made it clear that she is not a Labour Party member but supported Obi in the last election because she believed he was the most suitable candidate at the time.
Yesufu stressed that her priority is Nigeria’s future, not loyalty to any party or individual.
She stated, “Absolutely, if there is a better candidate, I will go with the better candidate. I’m not tied to anyone or anything. Even Peter Obi himself said he is not desperate to be President, but he is desperate to see Nigeria succeed. If a better candidate comes along, he will support that candidate. It’s about saving our country, not about anyone holding office.”
