A meeting of Labour Party stakeholders in Ohafia Local Government Area was held on August 15 to discuss the adoption of Chief David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex MFR, OON, UgoEna Nde Abiriba, as the consensus candidate for the position of Council Chairman by the Ohafia Traditional Rulers Council.
A statement signed by the Secretary of Ohafia Local Government Area, Chief Ogbonnaya Odim, and made available to The Whisperer on Friday, said: “ Mayor of Ohafia Local Government Area clarified that he neither solicited nor accepted/rejected the adoption”.
The statement said the Mayor reviewed the distribution of offices among communities, emphasizing the need for equity and fairness.
“Ohafia has the following: Deputy Governor, House of Representatives member, South East Deputy Vice Chairman, LP LGA Chairman, State Publicity Secretary, Special Adviser (JMartins), Commissioner for Education, Education Secretary Ohafia, Abia Warriors Chairman, Transport Management Agency, Abia North Women Leader, State Women Leader.
“Abiriba: Mayor of Ohafia LGA, SA on Trade and Investment, and Chief Press Secretary to the Governor. While Nkporo has just the Deputy Mayor of the Local Government Area, the statement reads.
The Mayor reminded attendees that positions are tenure-bound, lasting four years, and should be allowed to remain within their designated communities.
Representatives from all wards attended, including Chief Kalu Nmecha, Bar. Okechukwu U. Kalu, Engr. Collins Nkuma, Eld. Ejituru Eyeh, Sir Martins L. Emetu, The Revd. T.C. Nnanna.
Others include Dr. Agwu Emetu, Prince Nmaju U. Nmaju, Hon. Inyiri John Inyiri, Ogba Okebe, Rev. Peter Nduka, among others.
The statement said the Mayor was accompanied by Deputy Mayor Hon. Mkpa Uka, and Revd Onyema Agbai.
