Alex Otti, Governor of Abia State, says there will be no automatic candidacy for the current Caretaker Committee Chairmen/ Mayors in the state.

Otti said this on Friday night at the Government House, Umuahia during his monthly interactive session with newsmen.

Several politicians have expressed
concern and worry over speculations that the governor will grant automatic ticket to the caretaker chairmen/mayors to run for the council election in Abia state—after the Supreme Court ruling granting financial autonomy to the local government areas.

“I want to reassure you that we will do the right thing, the rumours you heard is just rumor, it is wrong,”Governor Otti said

Governor Otti also assured that plans to conduct local government elections in the state are in top gear.

Stating how soon the LGA polls will be held in the state, Governor Otti said the time-table for the LGA election is not yet out due to amendments needed in the law of local government election in the state.

In making that amendment, the governor said there are plans to approach the state House of Assembly for the needed amendments.

“There have always been plans to conduct local government elections, the timetable is not yet out, we also believe that a few things needed to be changed in the law, so, in the next few days we will be approaching the House of Assembly to change the few things and make the conduct of election as seamless as possible,” Candidreporters quoted the governor.
