The Publisher of All Facts Newspaper, Iroegbu Emenike, has alleged that members of the Abia State House of Assembly receive between N4.5 million to N5.1 million monthly.

Though he did not disclose if the said amount was their monthly salary or as “running cost”.

In a series of post on his Facebook page, sighted by The Whisperer on Saturday evening, Iroegbu also said the lawmakers “were given N10m each for constituency project”.

In his first post, he said: “Each Abia State House of Assembly member gets between N4.5 to N5.1M monthly. Why are [they] complaining that [there is] no money? Why[?].”

Again, he wrote: “All members of Abia State House of Assembly were given N10M each for constituency project. Why then have they been complaining[?].”

Lastly, he said: “Abia House of Assembly Members really played with our brains. They made us believe Gov. Otti is starving them of funds.”

Upon the inauguration of the Abia State Assembly last year, the PDP had the majority with 11 members. While the LP had ten members, the YPP had two members, and the APC had only one member.

However, the LP dropped to nine members after the Court of Appeal nullified the election of Mr Destiny Nwangwu (Aba North), while the number of PDP seats in the House increased to 12.

Earlier this week, the two lawmakers from the YPP defected to the LP to increase their seats to 11.

The state governor, Alex Otti, is a member of the Labour Party. He won the 18 March 2023 governorship election on the platform of the party.

The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr Emeruwa, also belongs to the LP.
