The Mayor of Ohafia Local Government Area, Chief David Ogba Onuoha- Bourdex (MFR), has paid glowing tributes to the sacrifices of the fallen heroes of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Onuoha, who spoke on behalf of other mayors gave the commendation today during the launching of the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem which was launched by the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti at Michael Okwara Auditorium, Umuahia.
He said: “Today, as we gather in solemn remembrance, we pay tribute to the brave souls who have selflessly served and sacrificed for the peace and freedom we cherish. On this Armed Forces Remembrance Day, we stand united in gratitude for their unwavering courage and commitment to our nation.
“The valor of our servicemen and women, past and present, resonates through the annals of history, reminding us of their sacrifice, dedication, and the immense price they’ve paid for our liberty. Their resilience in the face of adversity, their sense of duty, and their unyielding resolve embody the very essence of heroism.
“We honor those who have laid down their lives, bearing the ultimate sacrifice, ensuring that their legacy remains etched in our hearts and the fabric of our nation forever. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten, and their courage will forever inspire us to strive for a better, more peaceful world.
“Today is a poignant reminder that freedom isn’t free—it’s safeguarded by the valor and sacrifice of our armed forces. Let us commit ourselves to honor their memory not just in words but through actions that uphold the values they fought for: unity, peace, and progress.
“As we pause to remember, let us also extend our deepest gratitude to the families of our heroes—their support, resilience, and sacrifice are the silent pillars of our armed forces’ strength.
“May we never take for granted the peace they’ve secured for us, and may their dedication spur us to work tirelessly for a world where conflicts are resolved through dialogue, understanding, and cooperation.
“Today, as we stand in unity, let us pledge to honor their legacy by building a future worthy of their sacrifice. Lest we forget.”
