The Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu on Saturday paid a condolence visit to the Johnny Ukpabi family over the loss of their matriarch, late Chief Lady Grace Johnny Ukpabi.
Lady Grace was the wife of former Abia State Commissioner of Finance, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Johnny Ukpabi.
Senator Kalu and his entourage arrived the residence of Chief Johnny Ukpabi at about 3:30pm at Mgbele Urudu, Amabo, Okoko Item, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.
Speaking at the condolence visit, Senator Kalu described Lady Ukpabi as a hardworking and virtuous woman who lived a peaceful life.
Senator Kalu urged Ukpabi to take solace in the fact that his wife lived a great life serving God and humanity.
“I was one of the first people you told when she died. Thank God she has been buried. May God help us to see those who would bury us when we die. May God be merciful and help us to grow old before we die. She has left us, we say goodnight until we meet again. Accept my condolences.
“Through your support, we gave over 300 communities electricity when I was governor. We took over from the military when things were extremely bad. You were there with me and we worked tirelessly to make life better for our people. It’s in my DNA to serve the people. You supported me immensely when I was governor. I’m happy to see you strong and in good mood. On behalf of Abia North, we commiserated with you on the death of your wife.”
In his response, Chief Johnny Ukpabi appreciated Senator Kalu over the visit, saying, “His Excellency is my friend, my boss and principal, I thank him for coming.”
Also, the paramount ruler of Isiala Item community, HRH Sunny Obonma on behalf of the community appreciated Senator Kalu for visiting their bereaved son.
He said, “Our leader, on behalf on Isiala Autonomous community, we thank you for visiting our son. Your coming today is encouraging. On behalf of Isiala Item, we appreciate you for coming. Thank you your Excellency.”
