Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. Dave Nweze Umahi met behind closed doors with former Secretary to Government of the Federation, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, in Abuja, on Tuesday.
The agenda of the meeting was unknown to THE WHISPERER, while no official statement has been issued on the outcome of the meeting as at time of filing this report.
THE WHISPERER observed that Mr Umahi was consulting the respected diplomat, politician and statesman ahead of the 2023 general election.
THE WHISPERER gathered that the meeting between Messrs Kingibe and Umahi might not be unconnected with efforts toward zoning the APC presidential ticket to the South-East geo-political zone.
Although one of the leaders of the All Progressives Congress ( APC), Kingibe, by his past services to the nation is easily a statesman.
“Those who witnessed the political processes leading to the 1993 presidential election would remember the phrase: “Sai Baba.” It was a coinage by Ambassador Babagana Kingibe when he contested for the presidency of Nigeria.
“Kingibe was to become the running mate to the late Chief MKO Abiola in the 1993 presidential election and could have become the country’s vice president had the result of the election not been annulled by the President Ibrahim Babangida military government. In politics and leadership, he is a force to be reckoned with.
“A patriot of high repute, Kingibe, once Secretary of the Government of the Federation (SGF), can’t be ignored. He enjoys so much love and goodwill from Nigerians, both at home and in the Diaspora, who reckon with him as a man who has positively impacted contemporary Nigeria,” a source with knowledge of the meeting told THE WHISPERER.
