“Fellow comrades, it has been a week since we were elected and sworn in as executives of the University of Cross River Alumni association, and all the time I have sought to find the right words to appreciate you for your invaluable support and vote that saw us emerge successful at the polls.
“I for one, can not quantify the quality of sacrifices most of you had to make in getting us here, the many of you who had to leave your jobs, take long journeys and spend exhausting nights in the plethora of meetings all to see a new alumni come to be under our watch.
This is the inspiration that drives me, the need to leave a system that’s available, accessible and works for everyone irrespective of thier kit or kin, without prejudice and without fear or favour.
“Let me also appreciate the umpires of this process, you should be celebrated for the great display of statesmanship and just disposition displayed throughout the conduct of the polls. You have done for our organisation a great thing, and history will be kind to you.
“My fellow comrades, there is no gain say, elections come with thier own emotions and wrangling, but we must not fail to recognise that the melting point of all our aspirations and agitations is the advancement of the Union, and now is no better time to show true patriotism to the association than now.
I implore you to please sheath your swords and let’s unite, as alone we can do so little together we can do so much.
“Let me reassure all and Sundry, that this administration will run with the vision of uniting, rebuilding and restoring the image and glory of our association, and take deliberate steps to making it a value driven association for members and the University community.
To start with we will henceforth commence the setting up of modalities to address all pending issues at all levels and we will be counting on the understanding of all members.
