The traditional ruler of Ezema Ututu, HRM. Eze S.N. Okeke, Saturday conferred a traditional title of ‘Afa eji eje mba’ on Ohafia-born philanthropist, Chief Dr. Sam Anya.
At the conferment ceremony in Ezema Ututu, the monarch said the decision of the Ezema Ututu Council of Chiefs to honour Anya was necessary considering his track records in the development of Abia state.
According to the traditional ruler, the council approved the conferment of the title in recognition of Anya’s enormous contributions which he exemplified through his humanitarian efforts.
“The rationale behind the title is to encourage Anya to continue his support to the poor and the downtrodden through kind gestures,” he said.
Responding, Anya, who was visibly overwhelmed by the gesture, said the honour would encourage him to sustain his humanitarian assistance to the masses.
Anya, who is an aide to Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, said, “It is my desire to serve God and humanity whenever I’m called upon.
“I’m using this opportunity to reaffirm my commitment to serving God and humanity,” he said.
The occasion was attended by dignitaries from all walks of life including Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu, the Deputy Governor of Abia State and Dr. Philip Nto, Commissioner for Finance, Abia State.
Others were Chief Kingsley Imaga, Mazi Donatus Okorie, members of Ikuku Apostles amongs others.
