Nigeria’s Vincent Enyeama Inspired Me To The Top – Chelsea Goalkeeper, Mendy

Chelsea goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy, has commended former Super Eagles goalkeeper and captain, Vincent Enyeama, for the encouragement and mentorship he received from the former Losc Lille of France goalkeeper.

Mendy who is making his mark at Chelsea with his performances part of the reason why they are still in the running to finish in the top four and more importantly they are through to the final of the UEFA Champions League.

Mendy, 29, said Enyeama was top on the list of some former goalkeepers of African descent who played in Europe, that helped him to develop much confidence in himself at a time when he contemplated taking a critical decision about his career.

The UEFA Champions League finalist said, “You get to a point when you are not sure if you have made the right career choice”. “I was at that point, but, seeing a fellow African like Enyeama doing it regularly at a the top level in Ligue 1 got me moving”, hinted the Chelsea star in an interview.

Apart from Mendy’s contribution to Chelsea’s Champions League campaign which has earned the Blues a ticket to play in the final against Manchester City on May 30, 2021, the goalkeeper also pulled off another star performance in their 2-1 win over Manchester City in a Premier League clash on Sunday.
