Edouard Mendy

Was only really called upon seriously once late on and that was from Joao Felix, when the Senegal keeper produced a superb save to keep his clean sheet intact. 8

Reece James

Constantly told by Tuchel to get forward more and take on Renan Lodi and he responded well, putting in cross after cross and threatened to kill the game off by himself. Battered Renan Lodi who was subbed off at half time. Continued to push forward after the break. His defending was also spot on when needed. 8

Cesar Azpilicueta

Very fortunate not to give away a penalty in the first half after dragging down Carrasco.Regrouped after that and dealt pretty well with Joao Felix throughout. 7

Kurt Zouma

Played in the centre of the back three replacing Andreas Christensen, who was ruled out through illness. Didn’t miss a beat. 8

Antonio Rudiger

Bodied Luis Suarez to the ground midway through the first half as their duel from Bucharent continued. Made big clearances as Atletico threw themselves forward and pocketed Suarez all game. Superb. 9

Marcos Alonso

As he always does, more offensive than defensive. Didn’t have a massive say on proceedings at either end but it didn’t really matter. 7

N’Golo Kante

Barely put a foot wrong in the first half when he was outstanding at stopping Atletico, always in the way and always in the right place. Not much different after the break either as Kante put on an absolute clinic at times. His reading of the game is a joy to watch. 9

Mateo Kovacic

Industrious in the middle of the park and put in a proper shift. Passing was good throughout and kept the Blues moving from midfield. 7

Hakim Ziyech

Wasn’t really involved in much at all before popping up in the box to finish off a classic counter attack ten minutes before halftime. Forced a fine save from Oblak in the second half and was brimming with confidence after his goal. Subbed off to an ovation with 15 minutes to go and it was well deserved. 9

Timo Werner

Showed great composure and quality to find Hakim Ziyech to score the opening goal of the game. Forces a good stop from Oblak early in the second half. Worked incredibly hard throughout, full of running. Just needed a goal. 8

Kai Havertz

Started the game very brightly, one fabulous pass was wasted by Alonso and showed plenty of clever flicks to keep Chelsea moving. Superb touch and vision to release Werner for the Blues’ opener. A bit quieter in the second half but another good display from the German. 8

Substitutes

Christian Pulisic (for Ziyech, 75′)

Ran down too many blind alleys but supplied an assist for Emerson’s goal. 6

Callum Hudson-Odoi (for Werner, 82′)

Should have scored late on. 5

Ben Chilwell (for Alonso, 90′)

Brought on to run down the clock No rating

Emerson (for Havertz, 90′)

Same as Chilwell but decided to help out on the counter to score the killer second in injury time which no-one expected. 7
