Social Crusader and Philanthropist, Chief Patrick Osagie Eholor has berated the decision of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to regulate bleaching cream and other cosmetic products in the country.
Eholor, who is also known as Democracy Observer General of Nigeria, noted that the action of the lawmakers was insensitive, callous and unpatriotic at a time insecurity and the unity of Nigeria was under serious threat.
Eholor in a statement signed by him today and presented to TheWhisperer on behalf of One Love Foundation, criticised the actions of the lawmakers by engaging themselves with irrelevant issues like regulating bleaching cream at a time Fulani herdsmen were slaughtering and kidnapping Nigerians.
He wondered what leaders elected by the masses stand to gain by playing politics with national security and unity of the nation.
He said “I don’t understand how regulation of bleaching cream guarantee security of Nigerians; This is embarrassing and shameful. How will banning of bleaching cream create jobs for unemployed Nigerians? Senator Oluremi Tinubu, how will banning of bleaching cream guarantee sustainable and robust economy?
“Sadly, they have abandoned Nigerians to secure themselves just like we heard the Minister of Defence saying. They don’t care about what is happening to the masses in Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Benue, Katsina, Niger and Zamfara States.
“The rate of kidnapping and banditry is alarming; Nigerians are not safe. I expected the Senate to discuss extensively on how to reduce their salaries and allowances to fund the security sector.
“It’s well known that most of our Imams and Pastors uses bleaching cream, are they the main target? Are they targeting those kidnapping and killing people by banning bleaching cream? It’s a misplaced priority!
“Like I read on social media, maybe Senator Tinubu is not happy with those selling bleaching cream because her husband is not the one controlling the importation of bleaching cream.”
Eholor, who is also the Global President of One Love Foundation, expressed his displeasure over the appointment of AbdulRasheed Bawa as substantive Chairman of Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) without proper corruption screening. He urged President Muhammadu Buhari to be objective in his appointmens by carrying our tribe and religion along.
“The alleged corruption allegation against Me Bawa is a sad one. This shows that Mr. President and his team didn’t do a thorough research and findings before his appointment.
“President Muhammadu Buhari shoud be reminded that we have equal right in our constitution. No tribe or religion is more important or superior.
The President should carry everybody along to earn the trust of Nigerians. It’s wrong to treat some group as higher or more important than others. Nigeria is not a Banana Republic and his administration is not a military junta.”
The Bini born Crusader further urged the lawmakers not to screen the EFCC Boss if he was found wanting. He noted that if they allow what happened to Magu(immediate past EFCC Chairman) to repeat itself, the lawmakers should consider their political career over as Nigerians shall reject them through the ballot.
“Fulani people are not the only tribe in Nigeria. The President has promoted nepotism and tribalism in his appointments by retaining them even when not qualified in juicy positions. The Senators from the South should be ashamed of themselves for failing to defend their region.
“It is a shame they allowed the President to get away with some of the things he did by sidelining the constitution and the principles of federal character in his appointments.
“We are watching to see how they’ll handle the case of Mr Bawa. We are watching, even as we wait for them in 2023 with our votes.” He stated.
