FASHIOLA, OBIANO, OKOWA, OBI OF ONITSHA INSPECTS SECOND RIVER NIGER BRIDGE

The Honourable Minister of Works and Housing Federal Republic of Nigeria, Babajide Fashiola. Gov. Willie M. Obiano of Anambra State alongside his Delta state counterpart, Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa ably represented by the states’ SSG., Rt. Hon. Uche Victor Okafor, Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly. H. R. M. Igwe Dr. Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, Obi of Onitsha. Amongst other dignitaries were in Delta axis of the second Niger on an inspection visit earlier this day the 20th of November, 2020.

According to scope of work as made available by the contractor, Julius Berger’s Management, the construction of Main Works on the Second Niger Bridge consists mainly of the following;

– 11.90Km of the main bridge across River Niger and 3.3Km length of approach road at the Asaba side.

– The Bridge is divided into 3 sections; East and West approaches have 5 spans of 205m and 15 spans of 755m lengths respectively using incremental launching method and 3 Navigational channels spanning 3x150m + 2x90m = 630m using free balance cantilever method.

– 3-lane divided carriageway on either side.

– 3 secondary bridge (2 under passes at CH 25+166 (Oko – Amakom Village Road), CHI+304 (Atani Road) spanning 21.7m each and interchange at Obosi along the Onitsha – Owerri road).

– Toll plaza at CH25+700 consists of 8 lanes in each direction.

Babajide Fashiola who noted some complaints of the two states, assured commitment of the Buhari led Federal Government to the project, noting that the deflation of oil price would not cause a halt to the project. Fashiola maintained that the four hundred and fourteen billion Naira project is scheduled to be completed in February, 2022.

In their respective remarks, Both state governors pleaded with host communities to endure the slight damages caused by the project, submitted their respective requests to the Minister and extolled President Buhari for the project noting that the project when completed would boost economic development of the two states and its environs.
